touching the smartphone screen to take pictures

audio recording of the soundwork playing in the exhibition space
A recording of touching the smartphone screen to take pictures.
Instead of hearing the composed electronic sound of a picture shot, we hear the mechanical but
intimate moment of touching the screen to take pictures.
As something that is rather unconscious and not heard – when recorded closely – it becomes
something much more aggressive – as something would hit a glass screen.
This sound work was part of my MFA graduation installation and was played as a loop. In the space, this sound sharpened the perception of the windows; as something would hit the window. It acted as a constant reminder of something being caught on a device, but also the aggressiveness of taking pictures – trying to own pictures – shooting pictures again and again.
